BIO

Katy Blocher currently teaches clarinet and saxophone at Pendleton Heights Middle School and High School, and Muncie Central High School in Indiana. She has also worked as a woodwind instructor for the Homestead High School marching band (Fort Wayne), Monrovia High School, and Pendleton Heights.

In addition to her active teaching schedule, Katy enjoys performing as a freelance musician throughout Central Indiana. A member of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra since 2004, she also performs with the Muncie Symphony, Masterworks Chorale, and orchestras for area operas and musicals.

Katy earned a BA in Music Performance and Spanish at Anderson University, and will graduate in December 2014 with a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from Ball State University. As an undergraduate Spanish major, Katy studied at the University of Salamanca, in Northwest Spain. How do Spanish and clarinet combine, you ask? Katy takes particular interest in studying the wealth of music written by Spanish composers, an area of the repertoire not frequently performed in the U.S.

When Katy is not busy teaching, performing, or practicing her clarinet, she can usually be found hanging out with her amazing daughter, Lylah. Other hobbies include swing dancing all over the Midwest, and  running 5k and 10k races.
